Strategic communications, project management & product definition.

Meet Juliet

Juliet Burns

communications specialist, chocoholic, travel photographer, dog confidant

It all started when…

… I worked with an amazing group of women one summer in Basel, Switzerland.

This was my first foray into the work world during my summer break. My new colleagues taught me about project management, branding, copy editing, and supportive leadership.

Thank you ladies!

Then I chose to study…

… Language and Linguistics in York, UK.

Little did I know that my favourite subject* would be a hint to what I enjoy doing most: getting to know my audience and finding the right words to communicate with them.

*Sociolinguistics: “the study of language in relation to social factors, including differences of regional, class, and occupational dialect, gender differences, and bilingualism.”

A trial by Fire in the BIg Smoke

Moving to London, I worked with a truly creative and collaborative team.
I learned an incredible amount in a short space of time, delivering all sorts of projects on quick turnarounds and tight deadlines.

A key take-away from my time here was to never leave for the evening before checking with your team: “Do you need help?”

From a team of many to One

Leaving agency life behind, I went in-house to work at an R&D centre: sharing research stories with small business owners and policymakers. This is where I really started thinking about the balancing act between pinpoint accuracy and being understood.

We won a national award - which I was delighted to accept on behalf of the team. See the pride and delight above - snapped the moment our win was announced!

Finding my tribe

This wonderful group was my pandemic lifeline. We were spread across three countries and two continents, but we could tell within seconds of a call starting how each other’s days were going.

Working with this team, I learned a huge amount about empathy and plain language writing. Here, I also confirmed my suspicion that all forms of projects sink or swim based on successful communications.

Consulting on Strategic Projects

I’m an allrounder, from trusty side-kick to the management team, or team lead on a specific project, I can pick up the basics quickly and run with it. From events to marketing plans, websites, print materials, internal communications, newsletters, business processes, and most recently software design - I have worked on so many different types of projects. And the variety makes it fun.

Ultimately, I love helping kind people do great things. Working on ideas to do good.

If it sounds like I can help your next project soar, give me a shout.
